I am a speaker, writer and wife to a very busy Kingdom builder. It would be easy to get caught up in my crazy schedule and skip my time reading God’s word. That just isn’t an option!

As a Christian Communicator, I have the privilege of speaking to women of all ages, backgrounds and spiritual maturity. At each opportunity, I remind women that this is the basis for everything. The Word is our foundation.

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

My favorite time to read the Bible is early morning. The perfect setting includes a cup of coffee (in a beautiful cup, of course), my journal, a candle and a comfy chair. A fire in the winter adds warmth and my patio in the summer is invigorating. When I read and study the word, I am changed. Every time.

I cherish this time and setting in the word of God so much, that I titled my radio show and blog, Coffee and the Word. Coffee and the Word is always based on scripture with practical application. That is one of the assignments God has given me….to teach women how to live out His word.

I’d like to share with you 4 points that may help you carve out time to read and study the Bible. Morning or evening, you will not regret the time you spend with Him.

  1. Purposely set aside time. I make an appointment with God in the mornings, but if that doesn’t work for you, find a time that does, even if it’s not every day. Whatever you can do, that’s what you need to do. Just start somewhere and you’ll see the fruit that this time brings to your life!
  2. Make preparation for your Bible study. Find a place that is comfortable. It might be a certain room in your home, a certain comfy chair, your favorite view. Preparation will make all the difference in your experience.
  3. Have all your materials available. You’ll want your Bible, but also get a good Bible dictionary, concordance, a pen and paper. Online options for research and a Bible app on your phone may work best for you.
  4. Prepare your heart. Talk to God about things you may need to confess, and enter your study time peacefully. Release anything that may block you from receiving revelation during your study.
