I have the privilege of being at the lake this week for a couple of days before heading on down to Atlanta to stay with our granddaughter while her parents are out of town. Do I have time to be at the lake? No. Am I sitting here with nothing to do? Absolutely not. But with the busy lives we all live these days, we can’t put off getting away until we have nothing to do. That day will never come!
So, here I am, still doing all my work, but doing it from the porch overlooking the beautiful, tranquil water, with my four-legged baby, Chloe, sharing the chair with me. I’ve taken breaks to throw her toys and laugh at her antics. I’ve reconnected with a friend. I’ve spent time in solitude with the Lord.
It’s a great feeling. I needed it, and I have a feeling I’m not alone. There’s so much to do, so many demands on our time as Christian writers and speakers. We can’t possibly stop working!
Well, I was at the point that I couldn’t possibly continue with the status quo. I had to get a break, even if it was simply a change of scenery.
What about you? Are you weary? God’s Word reminds us what a blessing it is to have downtime and fun with family and friends.
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22
Where can you get away to? The park? The coffee shop? A lounge chair in your backyard? A change of scenery could be all you need to enjoy a new level of peace.
May grace, peace, and laughter be yours in abundance. Then you’ll be more empowered to go forth in His Great Name!
If you’ve felt the call to be a Christian speaker, we hope you’ll check out the one-of-a-kind Christian Communicators Conference, to be held at The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove in Asheville, NC. CCC is unlike any other speakers conference anywhere!
Intimate environment, small gathering, all-inclusive-packaging…everything speakers need to get them started–or continue–on the best path to speaking. And your experience doesn’t end when the conference is over! Ongoing support, fellowship, and networking opportunities continue long after you return home.
Space is limited, so don’t miss your opportunity. We’re already over half-full! Hope to see you there!
