Over the years I’ve learned the secret of handling the three major land mines for a traveling speaker. No audience knows the unseen land mines speakers face. These destructive factors are isolation, exhaustion, and temptation.

As an area sales and marketing manager with an international airline, it was my responsibility to build business relationships between my company, loyal clients, and new prospects. This meant miles of travel, honed presentations, and events upon events participation. Isolation, exhaustion, and temptation seemed to be my traveling companions.

At the end of one particular four day trip of keynote speaking for three different chamber of commerce events in two states as well as making public relations calls with half a dozen corporations, my husband called me around 11 o’clock p.m. “What are you doing?”

“I’m having a pity party here in the middle of bed. I’m eating a chili dog and chips in bed!” I had succumbed to all three dangers.

Dealing with isolation, I took messy foods in bed with me.

Dealing with exhaustion, I chose the easy way to try and comfort me.

Dealing with temptation, I stepped into the pity party pit with unhealthy foods.

Yes, there were worse things I could have done. Still I stepped where I shouldn’t have.

However, I learned that night the secret of handling these three land mines that all traveling speakers face.

Scripture disarms land mines!

Join me in holding tight to these scripture when:

Dealing with isolation, Christ says, “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”  Matthew 28:20b

Dealing with exhaustion, Christ says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Dealing with temptation, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And god is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10: 13

May you pack the words of our Lord with you on all your travels. They will disarm unseen land mine along the way.

Uplifting blessings,

Carolyn
